Current Considerations by the Brentwood City Commission
The Commission continues to discuss the 2012-2013 Budget and Capital Improvements Plan (CIP). The CIP covers plans and budgeting for city projects for the upcoming six years, accounting and saving for major expenditures well in advance of their purchase. The final work session for the FY 2013 Budget was held on May 10, 2012 and the decision whether or not to adopt that plan will occur at the June 25, 2012 commission meeting. Citizen comment on the FY 2013 Budget will be heard for three consecutive commission meetings prior to the final vote.
In March, Brentwood was the first city in the state of Tennessee to introduce the NG911 system. Some of the features of this groundbreaking achievement include the ability to serve wireless and VoIP customers and to pinpoint the longitude and latitude of emergencies called in on a cellular device.
Bridge construction and roadwork planning for the entrance to Brentwood's newest park, Marcella Vivrette Smith Park, continues. TDOT recently approved the installation of a signal at Split Log Road and Wilson Pike. Initial work is expected to begin by late Spring 2012. Fundraising efforts by public groups to raise funds by 2013 to add an additional 77 acres are underway as well. Leading the effort is Citizens for Brentwood Greenspace.
In other news from TDOT, work is scheduled to begin on the I-65 southbound entrance ramp at Concord Road in about 18 months. Widening the ramp will allow for safer access from the Interstate onto Concord Road at peak traffic hours.
It appears that Brentwood will, for the 22nd consecutive year, maintain the same effective property tax rate. Brentwood ranks as one of the top three lowest rate in the state for municipalities over 25,000 population. To keep up with the latest City Commission news...
